**Note: To be clear and fair – yes, they are technically different onesies. It never occurred to me to photograph the original onesie before I dyed it because I had no idea I’d be blogging about it later. Instead, I photographed a similar onesie for visual purposes. I do apologize for not being more clear about that. But, I assure you that I did dye and applique the finished onesie myself. :) Y’all have keen eyes!
**disclaimer – these photos were taken with my camera phone, so I apologize for their poor-ish quality. I just knew that if I didn’t take the pictures now, I’d never get around to it and this is totally worth sharing!
On to the onesie:
So, back in October when we found out we were having a girl I dug out all of Oliver’s white and light blue clothes and burp cloths and gave them a good long bath in some RIT dye. (So far I’ve only used the fuschia and green and I love them both!) The clothes dyed beautifully and I was able to repurpose a ton of boy stuff for our little girl!
So this morning, I completed the transformation of one onesie from this:
That plain white onesie was sad and honestly a bit stained. The pink dye took care of that, then just applique on a little “h” and stitch some ruffles on the bum from scrap fabric and voila! An adorable, girly, personalized top for a little girl that took less than 30 minutes (minus the dying, of course). Now we can just pair it with a cute pair of baby legs and she’s all set to go!(Oh, and not that I’m counting, but 65 days to go!!!)
>Oh that is such a great way to recycle all that boy stuff..it's super cute too boot too :)
>So cute. We have two little girls so not many white onsies but the ones I do have might just get repurposed if we have a little boy!
>That is SUPER Cute!!!! I'm impressed — You did a great job!
>wayyy cute!!!
how "green" of you too!! :)
ohh and i'm DEF. counting w/ you!
>That is a great idea! I have tons of little girl clothes and if I find out next month our new baby is a boy I may have to try that!
>Miss Hazel is going to be styling in that! So cute, you are so creative!!!
>How do you come up with these great ideas?! I usually am not a fan of the home designed onesie but that is adorable!
>Such an awesome idea!!
I love it :)
Tutorial please???
>wow, you are not only incredibly talented, but such an innovative, money-saving mama!! I'm very impressed and will be tucking some of these ideas away for the next time we have a baby :)
>Precious, Raechel! Love LOVE the personalization with the letter. And who can resist ruffle bottoms! :) So very sweet and SO very deserved. Enjoy her.
Blessings, girl.

>This is such a great and adorable way to spruce up some ordinary onsies! Thanks for the idea :)
>So cute! I can't believe it is really only 65days! I can't wait to meet you, Hazel.
>so amazing! you are truly thrifty!
>Oh for heaven sake, that's adorable!
>Man, I'm wishing my girls weren't 5 and 8 so I could make them these! :) I don't suppose they would appreciate the "ruffle bottom" anymore! Darn!
Btw, I received my Tabletalk for Feb the other day and was reading through some of the articles when I came accross one written by "Dr. Grant, Parish Pres. Church"….I may or may not have screamed out, "That's Raechel's pastor!" :)
>OH MY HEAVENS!! Stop it with your brilliance!! That is fantastic!! The RIT brings back memories of my mom dyeing our faded black pants etc ….well black again. Too funny.
>I am in awe of your talent. So jealous. That is beautiful!
>That's it. You need to open a store. Your craft abilities are top of the line . . . I am so amazed by all the wonderful things you make. Just awesome . . .
p.s. let me know when opening day of your new Crafty Mom store is LOL
>That is so cute! I may have to make some for my friends that are having little girls!
>I would have never thought to reuse stained onesies! Great idea!
>Anxiously awaiting this precious little girl!!!
>Tutorial, please? I just made a cute little swirly skirt for my almost 2 year old and I NEED to learn how to do appliques! So she has a shirt to match her skirt!
>Just thought I would let you know that I bought the target brand baby legs. they are $2.99 a pair vs. the $9.99 for the baby legs that hang just a hook or two over.
>Marcella -I noticed those same baby legs at Target (a big step in the right direction!), but our Target didn't have any pretty patterns in their selection.
Across the way, though, in the women's socks department they sell knee high socks with lots and lots of cool patterns for $2 a pair. If you don't mind stitching a quick cuff, you're selection is suddenly much more vast and also less than the BabyLegs brand!
