As I was leaving the Home Depot the other day with a fresh gallon of paint (I got the itch, so I decided to give our stair wall and upstairs hallways a facelift before the new carpet came in and made me all anxious about paint-on-carpet), I saw the most amazing sight situated just across from my van:
(and yes, I snapped a photo of it, of course!)
It took me a moment to realize what was happening, but that is definitely the most jimmy-rigged windsheild-wiping system I have ever seen!
Do you think the driver pulls the strings while he’s driving (I’m totally assuming that a man is responsible for this!), or do you think he has someone ride shotgun just in case the weather starts to turn?
A-mazing.
>ha ha ha….love it!
>ha!
>ONLY in Tennessee would you see this… Got to love it :)
>wow!
>I see sights like this in Missouri as well. :)
>This is the best thing I have ever seen! Since I live in Nashville too I am just totally impressed!
>That's hilarious!
>My hubby said those are redneck wipers. LOL Apparently he's seen them before.
>OH MY!
That is absolutely HYSTERICAL!
It took ME a moment to figure out what was up with all the string. Wow….
>That is great! Of course, you have never seen matthews bumper. After his last accident he decided to just fix it himself and used wire ties. Can't say it looks great, but it worked. :)
>Do you think its hooked to the steering wheel so he only has to turn it a bit to get the wipers to move? Cause that would be awesome. And way less dangerous.
>Abso-freakin'-lutely awesome. This made me come outta lurking and comment. LOVE IT. I'm still giggling!
>Nashville is great for stuff like this!! :) We were driving on the interstate the other day and a car passed us without the front fender. My husband and I just shook our heads and laughed.
It was truly a funny sight. Nothing like these windshield wipers though!
Gotta love Tennessee:)
>Seriously, if you weren't in TN, I'd think that was my hub's family! haha
>That actually makes me a bit sad…because perhaps this person just can't afford to fix the wipers and so they have to do the MacGyver thing in the meantime. :( I think I would have waited until the person came out and offered to pay for the repair if they went to the shop we use…so many people are hurting these days.
>Shelby – I appreciate your sensitive heart so much! Thank you for the sweet reminder to see through the chuckle-worthy moment to the hearts and people made in God's image! The wiper concept is pretty funny, I have to admit, and some folks just don't choose to fix things or are content to live with things a little less than perfect (we've got a messed up bumper on our van because of a fender bender I had but we're just living with it because we don't want to throw money into it), but you're right that it is possible that there is a real need here.
>Are you sure you're not in Southern Illinois? That's totally something I'd see in my town!
>HAH! Not gonna lie, I could totally see myself doing something like that. :)
>Haha. That is absolutely amazing!
>That's so funny!
I remember once when I was a kid it was pouring rain and the wipers stopped (my dad was the pastor and we HAD to get to church) so my brother cranked open the hatch in the roof of the car and literally used his arm as the wipers! It was really embarassing at the time, but is still so hillarious to recall :D
>Shelby needs to lighten up a little bit. People need to laugh and I bet the person who owns this car knew exactly what he (lets face it, this is a total man thing) was doing when he rigged this and knew he would get laughs.
>i got an email a few weeks ago about things men were responsible for. there was a picture of another vehicle just like this! too funny that you see one – i know now that the pics in that email weren't made up.
stacey
>ha, too funny. reminds me of the time that my dad put a ball inbetween his door on the car to push in the button that makes the door beep when open. he had to go chasing after a ball in the parking lot a couple of times… ;)
>Ha! This made me remember a time in high school when my friend's older sister (and her friend) got stuck in the same situation–and hooked their bras together to do the same thing!
