Knuffle Bunny: wounded in action

Posted by & filed under Being a Mom, Oliver.

Last night after we put the kids to bed, Ryan and I were winding down in the living room.

Oliver sounded a little restless upstairs and eventually tiptoed down the stairs offering some pulled-out-of-the-air reason for needing to say goodnight one more time.

We hugged and kissed him and gave him a firm warning to stay in bed. And as he hopped back up the stairs I noticed that he had something white tied around the bottom part of both of his legs.

Was it toilet paper? They almost looked like tourniquets. I decided not to ask.

Sometimes kids just do funny things and I didn’t want him to feel embarrassed. He was obviously enjoying some kind of imaginary play and that alone tickled me.

This morning I was making his bed and Knuffle Bunny fell out of the blankets with a baby wipe tied around his arm.

He looked distressed.

IMG_9451Oliver must not have been the only wounded soldier last night.

What kinds of funny things have your kids done in imaginary play lately? Do you ever just sit out of sight and listen to the big stories they’re coming up with?

I love finding Brynlee’s dolls and animal figurines tucked into her bed or laying on a pillow & covered with a blanket on the living room floor. So innocent and sweet.

Aww, poor Knuffle Bunny! Hope he’s on the mend soon! My J is 4 just like Oliver. Let’s see…just one story. He recently got glasses (and he looks so smart in them!). Wearing glasses directly conflicts with his alter ego, a lion, because lions don’t wear glasses. I had to google images to find cowboys wearing glasses. And most of the time, our living room rug is a pirate ship and anyone standing on the carpet is sinking in water. (OK, more than one story!)

Haha! Love these! So smart of you to google images of other cowboys in glasses! Our carpet has a large graphic/floral pattern on it and Oliver can rarely just walk right across it. He usually hopscotches his way from flower to flower as he passes through the room.

My kids all play an elaborate game (which only happens on my bed) called ‘Fur Kitty Fur.’ I don’t even try to understand it. As far as I can tell, it involves lots of meowing and as much jumping as they can get away with.

Austin’s been telling me all about how he and friend have been playing “Angry Birds” at recess. They come up with all kinds of neat new birds. He was telling me today, as we walked to school, about one called the grass bird. It shoots grass in your face. ;)

Asher will always have some kind of “friend” tucked in with him in bed. He is all about playing castles and prince and princess…. I’m flattered because he always gives me the role as princess:) LOVE seeing their imaginations take them away!

no, never got a straight story. I asked him the next day and he mentioned something about KB being injured. When I asked if he had bandages too he smiled and affirmed, but I could tell the story was just his.
