Fab.com lives up to their name

Posted by & filed under Uncategorized.

Good morning, friends! I’m home from church this morning with a congested Hazel and enjoying the stillness of the house after a busy week.

I wanted first to thank everyone for your overwhelming support for Ryan and Helveticards and the funny little story that got us from there to here. More than 250 of you signed up for Fab.com to buy the cards and support us. Thanks!

(Side story: one blog reader emailed me this morning and said she actually ugly-cried when she saw the cards and realized that her Gramma – whose eyesight is failing her and LOVED to play cards with her friends but can’t any more – can use Helveticards to rejoin her friends because the numbers are so large and readable. What a fun blessing to come out of this for them!)

Anyway – thanks for signing up and planning to purchase. The sale is going great (we normally sell them for $10/deck and Fab is selling them for $7.50) and it ends Tuesday! (Though we’re wondering if we might sell out before then!)

Many of you signed up expecting to get the bonus $10 credit that I’d promised and we disappointed to see that you were not credited. Believe me, I was disappointed, too. I felt terrible thinking I’d led you all to sign up for something with an empty promise. I’m not sure what happened exactly – there may have been a glitch in the link or I may have misunderstood the sale, but whatever it was, I’ve talked with the folks at Fab.com and they have totally come through for us!

Effective immediately, if you sign up for Fab with a new account using this link you will be credited $10 right away and can buy Helveticards or anything else you want with that credit. Yay! This link will be good through October 15th. (Oliver’s birthday!)

And what about the folks that have already signed up? Don’t worry – Fab’s got you covered too. (Told you they came through for us!) They’re crediting $10 to all of the people who signed up through my blog post as well (they’ve got a record of this link and are able to track it). This credit may take up to 24 hours to show up in your account, so you’ll have to be patient. But since you have 1 day and 22 hours (from the time I write this) to purchase Helveticards (or you can sit on your credit until something else comes along if you like), you’re still good to go.

Thanks to everyone who let me know what was going on. Y’all are so polite and gracious about things and I love that about you! It looks like everything is straightened out now and a HUGE thanks to Fab.com for their great customer service on a weekend to make sure y’all get what I promised you.

Have a blessed Sabbath, friends!

**Update: Fab.com has just notified me that all of my “invitees” have been credited at this point. They had to do it one-at-a-time, so please let them know if you don’t see your credit here**

I just signed up and got the $10 credit right away, which was great, but when I went to check out, the total came to $29.95! Turns out you can only use the $10 credit towards the subtotal, and then they add a $25 charge to all orders to Alaska and Hawaii! I was so disappointed. Is there any other venue that Ryan is using to sell the cards? If I lived on the continental US it would have only been $4.95 for shipping. :-(

      Rachel,

I also was disappointed with FAB when I went to go buy some ear rings and they wanted to charge me an extra $25 to ship to Hawaii. I was told it was because they had to ship them “by air”. I wrote FAB back and said UPS, FedEx, and USPS all deliver to Hawaii by ground (I know it sounds weird) and it costs no more than anywhere else in the continental USA. Heck, USPS ships flat rate to Hawaii for $8!

I ended up buying the ear rings for a higher price directly from the artist but saved on the shipping. The artist only charged me $4 priority mail.

I emailed Jason Goldberg, the CEO of Fab and he replied quickly that they would look at their policy. A month later nothing has changed. It’s a shame, I’d love to be a customer but I’m certainly not saving any money on small items by purchasing them through FAB. Maybe we should start contacting the artists and designers directly and ask if they will honor the FAB price. There’s no logical reason to add a surcharge to AK and HI.

        Hey Craig,
Sorry about all that trouble with shipping! That’s a real drag. I know you can order Helveticards directly through the site and the final price with shipping will be $14. Hope that helps!

The Fab.com credit showed up, which is fabulous…not so fabulous: the $30 for shipping to Alaska!!! :( Do you know if any of the other places that sell Ryan’s cards have more realistic shipping costs?

Great design and good luck with the sales. Long time blog reader, first time commenting. Got the deck of cards for my grandparents, who love to play cards with friends. Sometimes they have a hard time seeing the numbers, so this is Great for them and their friends. You should think about trying to market these towards the older generation, I bet you would do well! Thanks for the great deal!
