$22

It’s been a looong time since I’ve written a garage sale post! Like, at least since last summer. I’ve gone out a couple of times this season and only this time have I actually gotten around to photographing and sharing my finds for the week.

We hit probably six houses and I bought three things before it was time to abandon the yard sale fun in favor of air conditioning and a Costco run. Here’s what I found:

$10 – a pretty pink chair for my girl – They were asking $15 and were so glad to pass it on for $10. Yay, me! Funny thing: my family knows me. Ryan and Audrey saw the chair come in this afternoon and without a word wondered what fabric I would choose to reupholster it. They know me well. Now just to pick something pretty as I pull together Hazel’s new big girl room! (SO much fun!)

$2 – 2 pairs of binoculars – you know, for a certain upcoming secret safari that I may or may not be taking next week. Because, if I were planning to embark on a secret safari with my two favorite 5-year-olds, a set of binoculars each might make them very, very happy.

And my tuck-n-run find of the day:

$10 – 17 DVDs – I’m not even a buy-DVDs kind of person. Until today, we owned about 17 (three of which are the Oceans trilogy. Of course.). And when I saw the man with the DVDs for sale I scoffed. Why buy movies when you can just order them up on your TV, right? Except he had great movies – like that I want to have hard copies of or aren’t available for free online.

The guy was asking $3/movie or 2/$5. But he said if I got a bunch he’d give me a deal. So… my Mom and I grabbed 22 and he gave them to us for $20. She only wanted five, so I definitely scored. (Mamas are good like that, aren’t they?)

Anyway, here is my haul from the DVD guy (who was super nice and smart about movies!). And at $.58/movie, this is way cheaper than any online rental!

(do you know how happy I was to see those Star Wars episodes? Hey-yo!)

Are any of y’all garage saleing this season? What are you finding? I’d love to hear about your tuck-n-runs!! :)

Oh goodness, how I’ve missed these posts of yours! Perhaps someday you’ll inspire me to get out and garage sale! I’ve only been to three this year (all in search of boy clothing- since my son is a WEED!), but getting out on Saturdays with kids is just too hard.

Very impressed on the Harry Potter/Star Wars front. Also: the binoculars? Most awesome.

Lady in the Water? Meh. Pretty much meh. But here’s a confession: I’ve never seen Benjamin Button!

Great finds! I got a learning tower for $15. I said to my friend, “Raechel would call this a tuck and run.” And that’s exactly what I did before they asked for more!

My son watched the Pirates of the Caribbean movies when he was 8, and I don’t recall there being anything in there that gave me much concern. I think there were some naughty inferences that went right over his head. But I do think that a 5-year-old would have a hard time following the plot. We didn’t watch the movies until the first one had been out for several years, and when we finally did, I was really surprised at how popular they are because I think the storyline is really complicated. I had trouble following it at times, and I had to press pause about a million times to answer questions!

Spy Game is one of Georgia’s favorites. Careful with Temple of Doom, it’s the one where the guy rips people’s hearts out with his hand. You’re probably better off renting Raiders of the Lost Ark and covering O’s eyes for the scary part at the end. With the Pirates movies…maybe show him the movies after going on the ride? How many movies out there are based on rides? :-)

Lady in the Water isn’t worth the $.58 you paid for it. Terrible. But Casino Royale? O. M. G. Daniel Craig is the yummiest James Bond EVER! I don’t even like James Bond movies but I’ve watched that one over and over again. And I can get away with it with my husband because he loves the action. Seriously awesome movie overall.

Burn the pinky minky, fusiboo. I don’t care if you reupholstered it with sackcloth, that existing fab is not FMF worthy even as a WIP, lemme tell ya.

Johnny Depp is HILariously quirky in Charlie & the Choc. Factory.. Totally 5 year old appropriate.
It took me a couple of years of having this DVD before actually sitting down & watching it with my family.
It always looked so odd, honestly. But once I sat & watched, I’ve never laughed harder.
