picture my joy

This weekend I had the pleasure of doing something I love. I’ll never be a pro, but getting to create images through photography will always be a passion of mine.

I’ve always loved taking pictures – since I was a little girl. In college I took a number of classes and I was even the darkroom TA for a semester or two. I never planned to pursue it seriously – it was just a love.

When I first started blogging, all I knew was that pictures helped tell the story. A visual is always a treat for a reader.

So I started taking pictures.

And when I outgrew the capabilities of my camera then, I saved up for a newer, better one.

And taking pictures every single day for four and a half years – well, you can’t help but improve a little. I don’t even think I realized it – but it’s like practicing the piano or free throws – you can’t help but get better!

This summer it was time for another camera. And my husband gifted me a lovely new body and lens for my birthday.

And now, getting to flex some design muscles (literally – some of those lenses are heavy!) is just a joy for me. Like baking or sewing or putting together a fabulous space. It’s a love.

And I’m grateful that I get to do what I love.

Here are a few sneak peeks for my weekend clients. Because, along with taking pictures, I’m pretty fond of them too.

Wonderfully done, Raechel! Good for you!!
I couldn’t agree more, about continuous shooting resulting in continuous growth in photography. My story is similar!
I for one, have been practicing the piano a lot lately.. and do hope I’m getting better!

    Raechel,
I love your photos!!! I, too, upgraded body and lens this summer and it’s so exciting the new capabilities! I’m curious…what camera do you have now? I by NO means think the camera makes the photographer, just puffy heart love all things photography!!! Oh, have you been to Clickinmoms.com?? It’s amazing…and addicting!! An amazing wealth of knowledge and support for both hobbyists and professionals.

    Keep it up!

      Hey Katie!
My camera body is the Canon 60D (love!) and my personal lens is the 24-105mm. I also rented the 85mm 1.2 big daddy prime lens for the week. It’s headed back tomorrow. Sad face.

You know what I love? That these photos look so NATURAL. They’re not super saturated. They’re not overly, unnaturally contrasted. The subjects are just doing their normal, family things. (They’re not, say, newborn babies propped up on their hands. Shudder.) I LOVE these images, Rae. You are doing a great job! Love you and your passions. Wish I could knock on your door and hire you to do our family photos!
