I don’t think I’ve ever shown y’all my pretty nest necklace. (Well, I take that back – I did share it on Instagram a couple of months ago…)
But, it’s worth sharing here. For a number of reasons.
Let me back up.
I met Melody at the Influence Conference. And honestly, I didn’t really meet her until we shared a limo to the airport (with six other girls – it’s not as fancy as it sounds) and sat together at her gate for several hours because we’d been dropped off so early. We were exhausted from an awesome conference, but really clicked personality-wise and I was glad to get to know her. And best of all, though I only sat with her for a handful of hours, I was able to get to know her heart almost immediately.
While we were sitting at the gate (being super productive with our time by writing recap posts of the conference before we’d even left Indy), she noticed a mom and daughter sitting a few seats away from us. It was evident that the little girl (maybe 9 years old) had some special needs and was really struggling with the wait.
I hardly paid attention. Melody watched.
After a while, she set her laptop in the seat next to her, stood up, and walked over to the mother and daughter. I couldn’t hear everything she said, but I did understand that she had some very kind, respectful, encouraging words for the tired yet clearly loving Mom. I saw Melody hand her business card to the woman and I heard her tell her that she was an amazing mother, and that she’d like to gift her a piece of nest jewelry if she would feel comfortable with that.
The woman accepted the card, thanked Melody, and she came back to sit next to me. No fanfare. Just love.
I see this in Melody over and over again.
When tragedy struck at Sandy Hook, Melody was contacted by a friend of one of the mothers of the victims to make a piece of remembrance jewelry. Not only did Melody respond with a humble yet emphatic yes, she began a quiet campaign to raise donations to send all of the mothers of the shooting victims a necklace or ring to remember their babies by.
Melody is the real deal.
Not long after Influence, my own special order arrived at my door. A bronze nest on a jute cord. Two warm eggs on the front, one tiny pink egg on the back. Even more beautiful than I’d envisioned. A treasure.
Melody makes a lot of beautiful things, but her nest jewelry is my absolute favorite. Not just for remembrance, but for any mama bird who has babies in her nest (or now out of her nest). They’re perfect.
We even ordered a special necklace for Ryan’s mom for Christmas this year.
You can bet she loved it. Apart from the fact that silver + robin’s egg blue are her favorites, she was so excited to wear it and share it with her friends.
You know, I’ve seen Melody put up to a dozen little eggs in one nest? Different color eggs, added eggs after the fact, rings instead of necklaces – each piece has it’s own little story.
So, the main reason I wanted to share this treasure of mine with you today was to tell you about Melody and the awesome, talented, genuine woman that she is.
But the second reason, is that she’s actually offering a generous “buy-2-get-1” sale in her shop right now (ending midnight Friday) – perfect timing in anticipation of Mother’s Day (custom orders take time, after all!). Just put two pieces in your cart, and leave a note in the comments at checkout about the third piece you want to order.
And finally (and I’m super excited that I get to do this), I get to GIVE AWAY TWO CUSTOM PIECES!!
You probably know the Rafflecopter drill by now – just complete as many entries as you like (or all of them), and the tweeting can be done once a day.
Have a lovely day friends! And above all, know that each one of us sits as a pearl in the Father’s nest. He knows us each by name and He loves you more than you can ever comprehend.
Hi Raechel!
I saw you mention (& show) your beautiful necklace in your Influence class on Tuesday and fell in love! What a heartfelt sentiment to carry always!
Thanks for sharing!
These are absolutely BEAUTIFUL! And what an amazing young woman. I just may have to get one…or two…or three! My nickname for Veda is “Birdie” because I tell her she’s my baby bird…so this is perfect. :)
I had seen your necklace on IG when you posted the pictures originally, but after seeing it close up in your Influence class the other night, I fell head over heels in love. I’d love to have a pearly pink egg for my Abigail.
I’m thinking of one with 6 hidden eggs on the back. I have no idea if that would actually work with only 4 in the front.
I have been scouring etsy for a mother’s necklace for months! How did I not find these??? Stunning.
i love melody’s blog (and yours!), so cool to see her featured here!!
What a beautiful story about the mom with the special needs daughter. So nice to know there are kind people out there. Last summer I was flying with my 2 older kids and my 6 year old with special needs. She is 6 but developmentally is about 1. I was 7 months pregnant and our already late flight was delayed by several hours. We were oth exhausted and a mother nd her teenage son behind us kicked our seats and made fun of my daughter for the entire four our flight. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. So thank you Melody for being compassionate and loving. We moms of special kids so appreciate that because we so often feel like we stand out and are being judged. And your nest necklaces are absolutely beautiful.
