idioms and six-year-olds

idioms for 6yos

The other day Oliver spent the day with his cousin Beatrice at my sister’s house. I’m not really sure what prompted it, but midway through his visit, Rebecca sat them down with a list of half-finished idioms, just to see how they might complete them. (She’s fun and teacher-y like that!)

Below is what they came up with – some of them are pretty hilarious! I say sit your own kids down with this list and see what they come up with, too!

Strike while the lion stares.

It’s always darkest before midnight.

Never underestimate the power of – God’s word.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t lead a horse inside.

Don’t bite the hand that wiggles.

No news is bad news.

A miss is as good as a wife!

The pen is mightier than the pencil.

An idle mind is bad for you.

A penny saved is one piece of copper.

Two’s company, three’s dogs.

Children should be seen and not punched.

A bird in the hand is cute.

Better late than midnight.

And our personal favorite:

Don’t put off tomorrow what you can put off today!

Happy Monday, friends! I know I’ve been very very absent these past few weeks. Lots of things going on, busy-wise and heart-wise. Hoping to get some time to sit down and catch up with you all over a coffee date later this week. I think it would do my heart good.

xoxo,
R

Great list and I have been checking on your blog and wondering where you’ve been! Your readers (even though we exist only in the ether) wonder about you! Looking forward to that coffee date :)
