Some favorite iPad apps for little people

Great news! Today is my second in a series of three posts sponsored by Children’s Mucinex. Bloggers all over the interwebs are sharing their favorite tips and tricks for loving on their little ones when they’re under the weather. We’re sharing recipes, games, crafts and favorite comforts that have proven to be sure-fire ways to make our littles feel a little better – or at least hold their attention long enough to keep their bodies still and resting.

Yes, I could be sharing a recipe today or a craft. But I’ll be honest, what my 6-year-old loves best when he’s sick is a special cup full of a tasty electrolyte drink and a little bonus screen time to play on the iPad. And really, who can say no to sick eyes and a pitiful, warm body?

I asked Oliver yesterday what some of his very favorite iPad games are and we had a fun time checking them out together. (I’m ashamed to say that he’s better at some of these than I am). I pointed out that he didn’t seem to have any educational apps on his list and his response (whilst also demonstrating one of the games) was – and I quote- “Fun is more good than learn”.

So that was our shining moment yesterday.

I should probably write a parenting book right about now.

And… on that note, may I share some of Oliver’s favorite iPad apps (an excellent way to entertain an under-the-weather six-year-old boy):

My little guy likes to lay on the couch surrounded with as many blankets and stuffed animals as he can fit! He likes to watch movies and get snuggles from mom (I know this last one is short lived but I’ll take it as long as possible! )

Besides the traditional chicken soup (with home made noodles!), my kids always enjoy something icy cold to help cool them down. Frozen orange juice or grapefruit juice was a favorite, scraped into a cup with a spoon to create a kind of granita. It helped keep them hydrated, cooled them down, was fun to eat, and they got a dose of vitamin C along the way.

We love all those as well. The only one we didn’t have was Zap a Minion, we tried to download it but it said it was only available in the South Africa iTunes store. (Weird) Any ideas?

My just-turned 7 year old loves Brain Quest 1st Grade Edition and playing Mario always puts a smile on her face while under the weather.

My daughter loves to watch The Parent Trap in her room over and over again when she feels crummy. She knows the words by heart.

They love it when I rub some Vicks on them, cover them with a blanket and let them use my iPad which is filled with game and book apps so they can play games and read.
