Good morning! Today is installment 3 of a series of three posts sponsored by Children’s Mucinex. I (along with a bunch of other bloggers) have been sharing recipes, crafts and other activities that might make a sick day a little less sad.
When your babes are sick, they have to stay home from school (nobody wants to be the family that gets everyone else in the class sick!), but if you can lessen their symptoms and offer fun distractions and snuggles, it can be a sweet day for everyone.
Last time, I shared Oliver’s favorite iPad apps (for a 6-year-old boy) and y’all were so fun about reciprocating by sharing favorites of your own! I actually got a great new list of apps to try, and I’m sure Oliver will be forever grateful. (Oh, and I forgot to point out his past list from age 4 1/2. It was summertime then, and his skin was so deliciously brown…)
This time, it seems only fair to let you in on the apps that keep our nearly-three-year-old Hazel happy when she’s feeling icky. (Can you believe the last time I shared her favorite apps she was only a year old? So leetle!)
Enjoy the list, friends! And be sure to checkout the giveaway from Children’s Mucinex at the bottom of the post – simply commenting with a few of your favorite kiddo apps will enter you to win!

I’m not a mom, but I’d love a $100 gift card! And I’m taking note of some of Hazel & Oliver’s favorite apps since I’m keeping my 3-year-old nephew this weekend. Thanks!
My babe is only 5.5 months old, but he always cheers up with a dance around the house. Put on some fun music and wiggle around together!
I have four girls and their favorite thing to do on sick days is sleep in mom and dad’s bed. They are allowed to come snuggle in the morning but not sleep in our bed. So, this is a special treat! Some of our favorite apps are McGraw Hill math facts, super why, dinosaur train, and electric company word ball.
My daughter will be a three in a couple of weeks! We love the Veggie Tales app where my daughter can listen to fun, silly songs in the episodes and spot the objects in it. She also loves Angry Birds, How to Draw, Magnetic ABC, and Farm Flip. All are free!
Nolan loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally. I am pretty sure it’s free too!
I know it’s already March, but my daughter (2) loves Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Nothing cheers her up more than singing that silly song.
Hmmm… on a snowy day we like to bring the fun indoors and let them decorate snow and icycles with water colors and food coloring. If we put it in a metal pan or bowl, the snow refrains from melting for a suprisingly long time :).
My 1 year old loves Peek-a-boo Barn. My 4 year old loves PBS kids, Disney jr, lunchbox and shape builder.
My daughter, Abby 2 1/2, loves to watch songs on Youtube. She’s really into Mickey Mouse and Curious George right now. With my husband she likes to watch videos from Glee.
I have to recommend Endless Alphabet. I’m not one of those people who’s like “Let’s practice letters!!!!” but this app is seriously great. The 3- and 6-year old both drop whatever they’re doing and come running to watch each other play. It was free when I got it (not sure about now) and I anticipated needing to buy more words in-app at a future date, but so far, random new words just….show up in the app. Win.
I am also a really big fan of the Toca Boca family of apps. The 3-year old’s favorites include: Toca Doctor, Toca Kitchen, Toca Train, Toca Band, and Toca House. The 6-year old likes Toca Tailor best of all.
I pull up Hippo Seasons when the 3-year old really just needs to zen out for a while. It’s not a super-fun “game” and it’s unlikely to be attractive to slightly older kids, but it is pretty and has nice sound effects as you do simple repetitive things like mowing a summer lawn, raking leaves in autumn, rolling snowballs in winter, and planting flowers in spring.
not a mom, but i love cvs :) and the kids i nannied were always down for a good snuggle and some tv when they were sick. imagination movers was always a favorite.
My 2-year-old girl’s favorite “app” is actually just the camera on the phone! So cute how much she loves to snap pictures and how much she loves to look through the camera roll.
When my little guy is sick we turn on his favorite show Chuggington and that always provides some great snuggle time while he watches his favorite trains. Also, he is a fan of “The Monster At The End of the Book” app…We will have to check out “Another Monster At The End of the Book” app!!
DDs love playing UNO with us.
Angry birds is always a hit with my boys, as well as Plants vs. Zombies! I know it sounds crazy but it’s great for growing minds and coordination!
